此片是斯科特兄弟重導2008年的電視劇而成的迷你劇。
猶他州的皮德蒙特小鎮，一對男女情侶正在山上約會，突然一顆人造衛星掉落。好奇的兩人將衛星帶回小鎮，卻不知道也將可怕的遭難帶回了小鎮。突然間小鎮上爆發了可怕的病毒， 人們紛紛不明原因地死去。為防止病毒擴散到其他城市，軍隊封鎖了小鎮，并派出了代號為“仙女座”的科學隊前去查明病源。隊員包括：傳染病學家Jeremy（本杰明·布拉特BenjaminBratt 飾）、外空生物學家Angela（克里斯塔·米勒 Christa Miller 飾）、微生物學家Tsi（金大賢 飾）、病理學家Charlene（維奧拉·戴維斯 ViolaDavis 飾）。同時，一個名叫Jack（艾瑞克·麥克馬奇EricMcCormack 飾）的記者似乎也在探尋著不可告人的秘密……
