探長Sarah Lund（Sofie Gr?b?l 飾）即將辭去工作帶著兒子隨男友去瑞典開始新的生活。然而臨行前，她卻被迫與新來的繼任探長Jan Meyer（S?ren Malling飾）一起接手一件棘手的案件：少女Nanna Birk Larsen謀殺案。此時哥本哈根市長競選正處激烈狀態，年輕有為的候選人Troels Hartmann（Lars Mikkelsen飾）勝算頗大。然而他的競選團隊卻與這場少女謀殺案有著千絲萬縷的聯系。隨著調查的深入，Sarah的個人生活也被案件改變，但真相卻遲遲沒有付出水面……
