改編自真實事件，本片講述上世紀四五十年代蘇格蘭警探William Muncie和連環殺手Peter Manuel之間的貓鼠游戲。Peter Manuel曾經因為入室盜竊和性侵被Muncie警探投入監獄。9年后Manuel出獄后又開始瘋狂作案，與此同時Muncie開始收到其寄來的手寫卡片。Muncie誓將Manuel抓獲。
