這部連續劇講述的故事從40年代跨越到90年代，在大時空下以一個極其大家長似的潮州男子蔡慶陽（曾江飾演）的打拼史為主線，多個悲傷愛情故事為副線，展現一個大家族的興衰起伏愛恨情傷。
