《探長薇拉》改編自著名罪案小說家Ann Cleeves的小說，由Paul Rutman改編成劇本。布蘭達·布萊斯飾演探長薇拉(Vera)，和《神探維蘭德》中的Wallander一樣，她也有各種屬于自己的問題，死去父親的陰影、孤獨、體重影響的疾病……但案子總是排在第一位的。在年輕帥氣的警探Joe Ashworth(大衛·萊昂飾演)的協助下，兩人共同破了許多案件，幫助了許多受害者的家人伸張正義。
