洛杉磯最近黑幫的團伙成員一個個被人殘忍殺害，警局認為黑幫火拼又開始了。于是派出探員麥克（丹尼?格洛弗 Danny Glover 飾）去調查這次事件，并將兇徒乘之于法。不料麥克出師不利，反遭這些兇徒襲擊，差點喪命。兇徒能殺人于無形，具有隱身的能力。
原來這是一群來自外星的專門狩獵人類的怪物，能隱身、身上具有多種武器并能利用紅外線監測到人類準確位置。聯邦調查局也注意到了這一情況，他們派出了特別行動小組想活抓這些怪物作研究。然而麥克心里只有消滅怪物未受害者報仇這一念頭……
