本劇由《莫斯探長前傳 Endeavour》主創Russell Lewis負責，改編自Peter James的「Roy Grace」小說系列。首季由2個120分鐘的故事組成，分別改編自小說《Dead Simple》及《Looking Good Dead》。
劇集講述警司主角Roy Grace（John Simm飾）的事業因其非傳統手法而處于低迷，而且妻子Sandy的失蹤也一直困擾著他。此時警探Glenn Branson向他尋求協助，他手中有案件是準新郎因告別單身派對后的惡作劇而失蹤；接手了案件的Roy憑著直覺﹑猜疑﹑執著而不停追查新郎的下落，并因此接觸了準新娘。
